Steps 1 and 2: Find out if an infringement is taking place, and collect evidence
Step 1: Check it is copyright infringement before you send the notice.
Is the use of your work an infringement of your copyright?
Consult our advice article on copyright infringement to find out
Step 2: Collect up your evidence
Evidence can be anything proving your work was accessible and used without your permission, for example screenshots or photographs of the unauthorised use.
So this step may simply be saving screenshots of the images you’re reporting, that you’ve found or been notified of online.
Doing this gives you a record of the unauthorised use. If you screenshot the entire screen that should capture the date and time too.
Screenshots or photographs may be helpful later – particularly if you make a claim against the person, people or organisation responsible for uploading infringed material to a platform or website.
