APPG for Visual Arts visits Frieze London
The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Visual Arts visited this year’s edition of Frieze London.
The APPG’s chair, Theo Clarke MP, met with Ingleby Gallery, Edinburgh and London-based artist Larry Achiampong. Theo heard first-hand about the journey artists take to enable their participation at high-profile events like Frieze, and the challenges faced by artists and galleries.
Frieze London and Frieze Masters demonstrate the value that the visual arts bring to the UK economy and its international cultural influence. The success of Frieze London depends on an environment that nurtures and supports UK artists at all stages of their careers; the APPG for Visual Arts advocates for this through campaigns around the freelance economy, the low pay faced across the sector, and the need for a robust copyright and royalty framework that protects artists.
